SARAJEVO, April 1 (FENA) – There is a low level of awareness on persons with autism and their needs in BiH society, but thanks to efforts of the non-governmental sector more people know about that disorder and what it means.

”Persons with autism get the basic support from non-governmental sector. Everything they need, due to specificity of their disorder, is exclusively covered with projects of non-governmental sector”, said Secretary of Association EDUS – Education for All Sanela Linsday.

She emphasized that after diagnosis is established, children with autism in BiH are recommended to turn to Association for promoting education and support to children with and without difficulties in development EDUS – Education for All, because that Association has program of early intervention and multidisciplinary assistance to children with autism.

”It is pretty much everything that exists in our state to help children with severe forms of autism”, said Linsday.

She also has a child who was diagnosed with autism at the age of four. She sought help for him. Unfortunately, until he was eight she did not succeed much, until establishing Association EDUS.

She said their work program is based on the most modern scientific approach to working with children with autism, which is efficient, especially if applied at an early age.

EDUS – Education for All will mark the World Autism Awareness Day – April 2, with various activities, which have the aim to express solidarity and support persons with autism and their families in our country.
